The story of the American brand Troy Lee Designs began in 1981 when Troy Lee, a professional motocross racer from Southern California, started painting the helmets of several of his racing partners. Focusing on visor customisation, Troy Lee quickly began personalising the visors of helmets from the biggest brands of the time. His business rapidly grew, and Troy Lee had to move out of his family kitchen. He relocated his operation to a hangar at Corona Airport. To occupy this space, Troy Lee stated he would dedicate at least 40% of his time to aviation-related services. This is how he began painting identification numbers on private planes. However, it was in 1991 that the true story of the brand Troy Lee Designs began. After collaborating for many years with the brand Shoei, Troy Lee decided to take flight by creating his own products for motocross initially. In the following years, with the rise of mountain biking, Troy Lee Designs developed its first helmets for the sport, always featuring the design that has made the brand famous.
