Sleeping bags - 0°C - 5°C
Winter sleeping bags: comfort temperatures between 0°C and 5°C
Are you planning a winter expedition? Long hikes, trekking, cycling trips, camping in cold regions… The range of outdoor opportunities is vast! When it comes to expeditions, it means nights under a camping tent and low temperatures… So don’t risk getting cold by choosing the right winter sleeping bag for your outdoor outing.
The sleeping bag acts as a blanket and protects your body from the elements. A sleeping bag does not generate heat, but a winter sleeping bag will do everything to insulate you from the cold by retaining the natural warmth produced by your body. One of the most important criteria when choosing your sleeping bag is to understand the environment in which you will sleep: dry cold, humidity, frozen ground, wind, rain… A sleeping bag between 0°C and 5°C is designed to effectively protect you in an environment with temperatures around 0°C and 5°C. Beyond this range, you might end up either too hot or too cold, as each sleeping bag has its own comfort temperature and limit temperature.
Sleeping bag between 0°C and 5°C: natural or synthetic down
Goose down, duck down, synthetic fibres, does that ring a bell? The winter sleeping bag is filled for natural or synthetic insulation. If you choose a winter sleeping bag with natural insulation, it may be made of natural goose down or duck down and sometimes accompanied by natural feathers. Natural winter down offers the best weight/heat ratio due to its compressibility, lightness, and greater heat retention compared to synthetic fibres. However, be cautious of humidity and allergies. In mummy or rectangular shape, choose a winter sleeping bag that you feel comfortable in and not too cramped.
It is advisable to pair your winter sleeping bag with a ground mat or an inflatable mattress, if you have the space, to further insulate yourself from the cold and humidity. This will also provide additional comfort during camping when recovery is essential to go the distance in your adventure!
