The story of the brand Blue Ice began in 2008, when several friends sought to improve the mountaineering equipment and climbing gear they used. Their verticality equipment, in fact. Passionate about the mountains, they alternated between the base of great routes and the depths of a garage to develop ideas, create concepts, and finally launch the first Blue Ice products. Based in Chamonix, the cradle of mountaineering, their aim was to "return to the essentials." Driven by a burning passion, the friends introduced the first mountaineering harness to weigh under 150 grams, the Choucas harness, in 2011. Since then, the improved version Choucas Light has been reduced to 84 grams. Following these Blue Ice harnesses, the brand quickly released numerous flagship products, most of which were developed in collaboration with top-level athletes and high mountain guides. In 2016, the small brand grew too large and moved into new premises located in Les Houches, at the foot of the Mont-Blanc. Naturally, environmental concerns are at the heart of the French company’s priorities, which strives to minimize its impact on the planet and its playground. From this base camp, new Blue Ice equipment has emerged, such as climbing gear and Blue Ice backpacks. Behind these products lies a community of mountain enthusiasts and high-level climbers united by a shared passion: ascent.
The Chamonix-based brand offers a complete range of products dedicated to verticality, particularly in mountaineering, climbing, and ski touring. The Cuesta harness, for example, is designed for traditional climbing and big wall styles. Versatile, it has been developed for committed and experienced climbers and features a streamlined design that allows for great freedom of movement. In terms of ski touring equipment and alpine skiing, Blue Ice designs lightweight, functional, and robust gear for intensive use in high mountains. You can find the Yagi 25 backpack, ideal for minimalist days, as well as the Bluebird ice axe, versatile enough to be used in ski touring as well as in classic mountaineering. This Blue Ice ice axe, lightweight and sturdy, ensures a perfect grip. In the same vein, the company offers versatile mountaineering backpacks that can be used year-round, for both hiking and high-altitude outings. The Firecrest backpack is one of those. Well-equipped with gear loops, it offers a good mix of versatility and performance on all types of terrain and for all seasons.
